| 'Bordô' grapevines (Vitis labrusca) have great relevance to viticulture due to the quality they can impart to wines and juices. However, this cultivar has high variation in yield, ranging from 6 to 11 t ha-1. The use of clones with superior genetic potential related to scions currently marketed may increase crop profitability and revitalize its cultivation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the agronomical responses of twelve clones of the Bordô cultivar selected over a period of 15 years according to yield and quality. | El presente trabajo comprende la composición y distribución del plancton en las Islas Galápagos. Para el efecto se establecieron 12 estaciones ubicadas en las secciones 83°- 86°-89° y 92°W, realizadas en septiembre del 2011. Se identificaron 71 especies de fitoplancton en muestras de red (50µ). Las diatomeas fueron dominantes y en menor concentración se observaron los Dinoflagelados, Cocolitofóridos, Silicoflagelados, Cianobacterias y Tintínnidos. En las muestras de red se observaron Chaetoceros eibenii, Rhizosolenia imbricata, Thalassiosira subtilis, Proboscia alata y Planktoniella sol características del Frente Ecuatorial en la sección 86°W y 02° sur. | This study aimed to survey the benthic macroinvertebrate fauna of a first order stream located in an agricultural area, and to assess the environmental factors involved in the spatial distribution of this community. Invertebrates were gathered in November 2007 at three sampling sites distributed along the Itiz Stream, located in Marialva municipality, Paraná State. At each site, we measured the physical and chemical variables of the water, and then took four samples, using Surber sampler. | ABSTRACT: Double pruning extended the harvest season of wine grape (Vitis vinifera L.) to dry winter, enabling production of high quality wines in the southeastern Brazil. Winter harvest allows grapes to fulfill not only technological maturation, but also phenolic ripeness. Winter wines from Syrah grapes harvested from eight vineyards in southeastern Brazil during three harvests were analyzed for their chemical and aromatic composition after bottling and after ageing for 20, 30, and 42 months in bottle. Winter wines have high content of total phenolic compounds, which remained almost constant through ageing, as well as color intensity. | Este trabalho analisa a composição e a sazonalidade das espécies de moluscos potenciais hospedeiros intermediários de trematódeos digenéticos, bem como fornece informações a respeito das possíveis infecções por diplostomídeos nesta comunidade, em ambientes lênticos da planície de inundação do alto rio Paraná. Foram coletadas e analisadas dez espécies de moluscos, e houve nítida sazonalidade na densidade e abundância dos moluscos, correlacionada significativamente com a temperatura da água. Os maiores valores observados foram entre os meses de novembro de 2002 a fevereiro de 2003. Apenas Biomphalaria peregrina caracterizou-se como hospedeiro para Diplostomidae, pois nesta espécie foram encontradas 32 cercárias de Hysteromorpha triloba em março de 2003. |

| La composición, distribución y abundancia de las comunidades planctónicas de los ríos Mocache, Vinces, Babahoyo y el Humedal Abras de Mantequilla (Provincia de Los Ríos) fue analizada durante el 2009. Mensualmente en 29 zonas de pesca se recolectaron muestras para el análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo de fitoplancton, zooplancton e ictioplancton. Se identificaron 139 grupos fitoplanctónicos, 63 de zooplancton y fauna acompañante, así como 16 géneros y ocho especies de larvas de peces. | Abstract Many parks in the city of São Paulo contain remnants of Atlantic Forest. Of the 30 municipal parks in the South of the city, we investigated two in this study (Santo Dias Park and Shangrilá Park) in order to survey their mosquito fauna and investigate the presence of potential bioindicators of environmental conditions and vectors of human pathogens. | ABSTRACT: The effect of boiling, microwaving and aluminium (Al) foil-baking on composition of intramuscular phospholipid fatty acids of Inra rabbit was evaluated. Results showed that, the proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA)(e.g. C18:2n-6, C20:4n-6, C20:5n-3, C22:5n-3 and C22:6n-3) and monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA)(e.g. C18:1n-7 and C18:1n-9) of treated longissimus dorsi muscle (LD) decreased, whilst the proportion of saturated (SFA)(e.g. C16:0 and C18:0) and n-6/n-3 value increased during cooking. | The objective of this study was to establish a correlation between the content of total lipids, cholesterol and fatty acid profile of the edible portion of the shoulders of 12 castrated and 12 non-castrated Santa Ines lambs, slaughtered at different ages (84, 168, 210, 252 days). Shoulders and the edible portion (muscle and fat) were weighed and stored at -5 °C. Castrated and uncastrated lambs increased their body weight and half carcass weight, respectively. The shoulder weight increased in the carcasses of uncastrated animals. The edible portion of the shoulders of castrated lamb has greater amount of total lipids (16.09 g/100 g). | The work aimed at determination of calorific value of municipal solid waste in Enugu, Nigeria and its potential for electricity generation. Random truck sampling was used according to American Society of Test and Material (ASTM) in the collection of samples at Ugwuaji landfill site, Enugu, Nigeria and calorific value was determined using oxygen bomb calorimeter. Enugu has a present population of 882,178 and the amount of municipal solid waste generated in Enugu was estimated to be 420 tonnes daily and this resulted in waste generation rate of 0.48kg/capita/day.
